Tasmanian Young Farmer of the Year

HOW IS THE YOUNG FARMER TITLE DECIDED?
To be named the Tasmanian Young Farmer of the Year, competitors participate in two separate days of competition.

The Young Farmer competition is one of the largest competitions run.  Usually around August each year, each Region of Rural Youth holds their own Young Farmer Runoff - which anyone can enter.  It tests skills such as stock judging, seed ID, first aid, fencing, etc - anything that is associated with farming.   It is always a fun day where even people who know very little about farming can test their skills and enjoy learning something new!

Each Region automatically qualify their five best "Young Farmers" to the State Final held in September, with the best six of these fighting it out with the last two modules - Public Speaking and Quiz during the Dinner in the evening.  The Final is held on the same weekend as the Rural Roundup competitions.

We have many sponsors for the Young Farmer competition which make prizes for the final six well worth winning!
