10th Women on Farms Gathering
Deloraine
18-20 May 2012

The biennial Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWiA) Women on Farms Gathering will be held in Deloraine in 2012.    Friday night kicks off with a mini trade fair followed on Saturday with a Gathering favourite—bus tours to places not normally open to the public.   Relax over dinner on Saturday evening whilst being entertained by Guest Speaker, Robyn Moore.   Partners are welcome to attend for an additional cost.  Sunday you are invited to choose from a variety of workshops before returning home invigorated and recharged to face life’s challenges.

Training Opportunities – RuralBiz Training


RuralBiz Training provides quality and high-value training to the rural and agri-business community.     It offers nationally accredited training (through an RTO) to Advanced Diploma level. Its current training scope includes all units of competency in Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diplomas of both Agriculture and Rural Business Management.

Flexible delivery is their specialty, with courses available in interactive online mode, distance education and traditional face-to-face workshops.  You can train with them without leaving home, or you can get a small group together and they will come to you.   The trainers are well qualified and experienced, and all live in rural communities.

TFGA Island Award – Applications Open NOW


The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) is seeking nominations for a new award that will recognise a farming business that leads the way in sustainable innovation.  The Island Award for excellence in Tasmanian agriculture will be presented each year at the TFGA annual conference. This year’s will be at Country Club Tasmania in Launceston from July 11-13.

The Island Award will be given to a farming business that has an eye to the future. It must demonstrate a sustainable, adaptive and innovative approach to farming. It should be able to show that it is farming for tomorrow as well as today.  The winner will receive a trophy and $2000 cash prize. Leading Tasmanian agricultural business consultancy Macquarie Franklin is the initial sponsor.

Agricultural industry groups (grower organisations, representative groups) can submit a nominee from their industry. Individual farm businesses are also encouraged to apply.

Applications are open now and close on Friday May 11.  Application forms and guidelines are available from the TFGA and Macquarie Franklin websites.
