mid-winter’s evening

The West Tamar Chamber of Commerce invites you to spend an evening at Moores Hill Estate Cellar Door with guest speakers Ross Brown an Executive Director of Brown Brothers Estate Milawa and Dr Tony McCall from UTAS.

Ross will talk about his vision for the Brown Brothers investment in Tasmania and his personal goal of producing the world’s best pinot noir.

Tony will talk about Agri-Food Futures in Tasmania: Collaborative Business Models.

New on-line tool to help Tassie businesses


Business owners or people keen on starting their own business are being encouraged to take advantage of the support offered through the new Enterprise Centres Tasmania website.   There are eight Enterprise Centres operating around Tasmania, delivering free, practical assistance to small businesses.
Assistance offered through Enterprise Centres includes one-on-one consultations to help with business research and planning, guidance on licences and permits and access to workshops and training.

COMMUNITY ACTION GRANTS

Community Action Grants now open 

Community groups can now apply for small grants to help fund local environmental and sustainable agriculture projects.   

$5 million will be available through the 2011-12 Community Action Grants round.   

Grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 are available to help local community groups undertake activities such as revegetating landscapes, removing weeds, controlling pests, holding field days and improving sustainable land management practices.  

Applications for the 2011-12 Community Action Grants round will close Monday 1 August 2011.

Purpose: The Climate Change Grant Program aims to help the Australian public understand the need to act on climate change and reveal the opportunities and benefits of a clean energy future.
 
Overview: The program will be open from 30 June 2011 and will provide organisations the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $250,000 to share their stories and demonstrate the opportunities associated with Australia moving toa clean energy future.

Purpose: Optus Connecting Communities Grants funding will be awarded to projects aimed at building social inclusion and supporting disengaged youth. 2011 will be the fourth year we have run the grants program.
  
Who can apply:    
Optus will only accept applications from or on behalf of Australian incorporated organisations that have been endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as Tax Concession Charities (TCC) and Deductible Gift Recipients (DGR). Individuals and for-profit organisations are not eligible to apply.

Women in Horticulture


TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN INVOLVED IN THE HORTICULTURE INDUSTRY

An education and training program is currently being offered to women involved in the horticulture industry. Approximately 15 women from across Australia will be chosen to participate in 10 online classes covering a range of different topics including production, sustainability and leadership development.

The aim of the program is to enhance the capacity of women in fruit and/or vegetable growing and production businesses, and to encourage them to engage with theirs and other industries. The project will also include attendance at a two-day conference in Adelaide, tailored to suit the interests of the group, where they will get the chance to network and take part in practical workshops.

This project is supported by funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under Australia’s Farming Future.
