Global Fund for Women
Grant opportunity for women’s groups that
advance the human rights of women and girls
The Global Fund for Women supports women's groups that advance the human rights of women and girls. We strengthen women's right groups based outside the United States by providing small, flexible, and timely grants ranging from $500 to $30,000 for operating and program expenses. We value local expertise and believe that women themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change.
Who the Global Fund supports
- Groups of women working together.
- Organizations that demonstrate a clear commitment to women’s equality and women’s human rights.
- Organizations that are governed and directed by women.
- Organizations based outside of the United States.
Who the Global Fund does NOT support
- Individuals and Scholarships
- Organizations that do not have a women’s human rights focus.
- Organizations headed or managed by men.
- Organizations whose sole activities are income-generation and/or charity.
- Organizations based or working primarily in the United States.
- Organizations in the Global North proposing partnerships in the Global South.
- Government entities, political parties or election campaigns.
Types of Grants
The Global Fund receives over 3,000 proposals a year and is able to award about 600 grants annually. Due to the large number of applications we receive, please allow seven to nine months to review your request. We accept applications throughout the year and award grants every three months. We will send you a note of receipt within three weeks of receiving your application. Thank you!
There are three types of grants:
1. General Support Grants
These are flexible, small grants to cover general operating and project expenses.
2. Travel Grants
These are small grants that allow members of an organization to attend conferences and events.
3. Organizing Meeting/Event Grants
These are small grants to support organizations planning a time-sensitive conference or event.
The Global Fund for Women is committed to providing support to women’s groups throughout the world in a fair and just way. We accept grant proposals in any language and any format. We award grants based on criteria and priorities determined in partnership with women’s rights activists working on the ground.

Gillard Government supports free rural financial counselling services

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, today announced that the Gillard Government will extend Rural Financial Counselling Services across Australia for a further four years.The Australian Government will provide $54.9 million over four years in grants to the 14 state and regional organisations that currently deliver the RFCS on behalf of the Government.
This includes $13.3 million in funding in 2011-12 and a further $41.6 million from 2012-13 to 2014-15 to support the program.
Minister Ludwig said the RFCS provides free and vital assistance to farmers, fishers and small rural businesses in financial difficulty throughout Australia.
“Australia’s farmers and food producers face a complex mix of challenges, from droughts and floods to pest and disease threats and resource constraints,” he said.
“The Gillard Government is committed to providing farmers and their families with effective support so that they can overcome these challenges and enhance the profitability and competitiveness of their businesses.
“Rural financial counsellors provide a wide range of information to help farmers in rural and regional Australia identify financial and business options and negotiate with their lenders.
“In 2009-10 alone, more than 10,200 farming, fishing and small rural business clients accessed the services provided by rural financial counsellors across the country.”
There are more than 190 individuals employed by not-for-profit organisations delivering rural financial counselling services, with 119 of these people working as rural financial counsellors.
“Rural financial counsellors will have a busy time ahead, helping farmers assess the health of their businesses and plan for their future as they recover from the drought and the recent floods,” Minister Ludwig said.
“This decision demonstrates the Government’s commitment to providing real services to regional Australia, and builds on the legacy of the Hawke Government which introduced the program.”

Tasmanian dairy industry revealed
The mysteries of the Tasmanian dairy industry revealed
Do you suspect you are the only one who doesn’t understand how Tasmania’s dairy industry works and who does what?
Dairy farmers from throughout the Far North West are invited to attend a meeting of the Circular Head branch next Wednesday night (April 27) for a question and answer session with the industry leadership on everything they have wanted to know but have not been game to ask.
For example:
- what is the difference in the roles of the TFGA Dairy Council and DairyTas?
- what is DairyTas?
- who decides milk prices?
The branch meeting will be held at Tall Timbers at Smithton on Wednesday April 27 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Speakers will include TFGA Dairy Council chairman Andrew Lester, DairyTas executive officer Mark Smith, TFGA president David Gatenby and CEO Jan Davis.
Supper will be served.
