2011 Women Entrepreneurs Awards

Nominations are now open for Tasmanian business women in the North, South and North West 2011 Women Entrepreneurs Awards.

If you operate or own your own Small Business in Tasmania you are eligible to be nominated for this Award.

The objective of these awards is to raise awareness of the pivotal role women play in the world of small business and to help business women from around Tasmania gain the recognition they deserve, whilst inspiring others who are following in their footsteps. Women are perhaps the quiet achievers in the ranks of small business, and given their obvious talents and skills, they richly deserve the opportunity to showcase their achievements.

$4000 worth of business related coaching prizes will be presented to each regional winner.

Supported by Women Tasmania, nominations close on 1st August, 2011

Awards will be announced during The Regional Women in Business Week.

Biological Farming at Ringarooma

As part of the Future Ready Dairy Systems project a field day on biological farming will be held at Andrew and Kate Carter’s.  Andrew and Kate have been using an integrated approach focused on soil biology for the past three years.  Come for lunch to hear what they have learnt along the way.  Farm adviser, Karl Stokes, will also be attending and he will demonstrate Visual Soil Assessment (Landcare Research NZ).  Changes in the production system will be discussed in terms of costs/benefits and greenhouse gas emissions.

A unique opportunity for selected rural and regional leaders to undertake a program of personal growth and develop the skills, knowledge and networks needed to be effective in regional, state, national and international arenas.

Comprising professional and personal leadership skills development, examination of key national and international issues and interaction with leaders in government, industry and the community.

The Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP) prepares these leaders to:

• develop sustainable, competitive and profitable industries, in an international context;
• develop sustainable (economic, social, environmental) communities within rural and regional Australia;
• establish strategic alliances and build strong links within and across industry sectors;
• identify the competing demands for industry, government and the community support;
• identify and analyse the strategic issues affecting the future of rural and regional Australia;
• understand the values, tactics and arguments of interest groups;
• deal confidently with industry, government and community leaders in Australia and overseas; and participate in shaping national policies.

The Program is for the development of the men and women who will lead rural and regional Australia well into the 21st century - men and women with vision and a commitment to shaping the future. It comprises a part-time course of 59 days, conducted over 16 months.

Young Agriculturalists Program

Adoption and Extension for Young Agriculturalists Program

Ag Consulting Co and RDS Partners invite you to participate in an exciting project: ‘Adoption and Extension for Young Agriculturists’.

The project’s program will enable young people engaged in primary industries to access the latest thinking in extension and adoption practices. Participants will gain an understanding of how farmers make decisions, learning styles and adoption theory, these skills can be utilised within primary industries, rural communities and their businesses.

       

THE PROGRAM will include:

· Participation in a two day  workshop in Adelaide
Monday and Tuesday, September 19^th and 20th, 2011. 

· Networking dinner on Monday evening
19th September.

· Coaching/mentoring sessions: one-on-one and/or group sessions
September 2011 to April 2012.

· Online or teleconference discussion groups
September 2011 to April 2012.

· Participation in follow up, one-day workshop in Adelaide
Friday February 24th, 2012.

COST

Course fees and training materials will be covered by the project.  Participants will cover their own airfares, travel, accommodation and non-workshop meal expenses.
